FAQ's & Fees

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is the treatment of mental and emotional disorders through the use of psychological techniques designed to encourage communication of conflicts and insight into problems, with the goal being relief of symptoms, changes in behavior leading to improved social and relational functioning, and personality growth.

What can I expect?

During the first session, we'll typically cover some background information and discuss your goals for treatment. You'll have the opportunity to ask further questions, and you will probably get a sense of how we'll work together. Together, we'll create a plan to address your struggles and concerns.

Over the following sessions, we'll continue to explore the steps you are taking towards your goals, and identify any continued areas for growth. Someone once said, "Psychotherapy is a journey, not a destination."

How confidential is my information?

Legally, therapists must observe strict standards of confidentiality. This means that nothing, including the simple fact that we are working together, can be disclosed to anyone without your signed consent.

The only exceptions to this are child abuse, elder abuse, or imminent danger of suicide or homicide.

What about medication?

Medication is designed to balance brain chemistry which has been changed as a result of a mental condition, such as depression or anxiety. Used correctly, it is mind correcting, not mind altering.

Physicians and psychiatrists are the only practitioners who can prescribe medication. Therefore, we do not prescribe medication directly, but we work closely with prescribing clinicians as a normal part of coordinating treatment. Referrals for an initial medication evaluation can be provided if necessary.

Do you accept insurance?

Most insurance carriers require a detailed explanation of a client's treatment, and a clinical diagnosis to cover psychotherapy. For confidentiality reasons, many individuals prefer to pay out-of-pocket (also known as private pay).

Consequently, we currently do not accept insurance. However, we are happy to provide you with any invoices or paperwork requested.
